Books preservation and conservation workshop 2023

Date: Monday 30 Jan 2023

The HKSKH Archives invited Ms. Emma Lau, a Hong Kong book conservator, to conduct a preservation workshop for the staff. As the staff often works with damaged papers and books, the Archives arranged a three-day workshop to enable the staff to learn the basic theory of book preservation and simple repair methods.

In the first day of the workshop, Emma explained a brief theory of materials and collections surveys, the proper way to store books and papers, and taught staff to make book cases.

Emma Lau is a book and paper conservator based in Hong Kong. She holds an MA in Conservation of Books and Library Materials from West Dean College, England and a BFA in Printmaking from York University, Canada. Emma worked at M+ Museum and the Tung Wah Museum Archives. She also works as an educator for which she shares her experience and knowledge in printmaking and bookbinding.
