Date: Tuesday 25 Feb 2025
In order to enhance students’ understanding of the education development and archival management of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, Prof. Timothy Wong accompanied 24 students from Department of History, Hong Kong Baptist University to visit HKSKH Archives and HKSKH Education Services on 24 February 2025. We were thankful to receive the book "Christianity and Education in Modern China" from Prof. Timothy Wong.

During the visit, our staff first introduced the mission and work of HKSKH Archives to the visiting group. The visiting group then split into two groups for a exhibition tour and exchange activity: one led by Dr. Chan Ruiwen, researcher, and two student interns, Ivan and Jenny, for sharing the Introduction of HKSKH Centre for historical research and publication; Ms. Lin served as the guide for the tour and displayed part of the collections and historical documents, including the original copy of the "Letters Patent" (1849) and two of "Book of Common Prayer" (1854 & 1855). Ms. Lin explained the stories behind the HKSKH early promotion of education and the running of schools in Hong Kong of the collections, and conveyed the importance of careful preservation and maintaining historical archives. The visiting group was interested in the collections and participated in the Q&A section actively. We also invited Mr. Peter Kwok, Director of Education Services, to deliver a sharing on HKSKH Education. Mr. Kwok gave a detailed introduction to the 'Three-racing-chariot model of mission', the core educational philosophy of HKSKH education, and shared the history and development of some Anglican schools as the educational environment in Hong Kong changed. Mr. Kwok also interacted with the visiting group on values education in contemporary and promoted the 4Rs Mental Health Charter, which benefited the visiting group a lot.

We hope that this visit will not only enable students to gain a deeper understanding of working in promoting education and preserving historical archives at HKSKH, but also inspire students' interest in the education and archival industry.
