This is the Fourth Edition of this book. The Author had taken advantage of his furlough in England to bring the Story up to date. The author ventured to weave the supplementary chapter, written by Mr. Stock for the Third Edition, into the general narrative of the past twelve years ; and he have enlarged the scope of the Story so far as to touch upon the Missionary Diocese of Mid China at large, with reference to C.M.S. work in Kiang-su, and to the work projected in Sz-chuen.
