The Archives of the Holy See: An Introduction

Date: Thursday 05 Mar 2020

Dr. Ruiwen Chen, the researcher of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archives, was selected to attend the workshop“The Archives of the Holy See: An Introduction”held in Rome from January 20th to 24th ,2020. This was a very competitive programme. Dr. Chen was the only one from Hong Kong. Other 11 scholars were from UK, USA, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Australia.

The key aim of this workshop was to introduce the main Archives of the Holy See, with special emphasis on the early-modern and modern period, and to help the scholars learn how to access and use the documentation preserved therein.

During this programme, Dr. Chen visited Vatican Apostolic Archives, Archives of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Archives of the Vicariate of Rome, Archives of the Congregation de Propaganda Fide and the Archives of the Fabbrica di San Pietro. She talked to different archivists and introduced Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archives and church history to them. Two scholars, Ms. Mariana Brum Fonseca from Portugal University and Mr. Ben Long from UCLA, want to apply for HKSKH Archives’ coming summer internship programme.

This programme has enhanced the exchanges among world class archives and Hong Kong Anglican Church Archives. It also provides us a better understanding of life and mission and helps us to serve our Church in a better and more professional way.
